Qigong
Pronounced “chi gong,” Qigong was developed in China thousands of years ago as part of traditional Chinese medicine. It involves using, with the goal of improving and maintaining health and well-being.
The Five Element Qigong Healing Movement Class on Tuesdays taught by Certified Spring Forest Qigong Instructor and Master Healer, Kemiyah is a perfect introduction to this powerful, yet gentle healing art. Kemiyah teaches techniques from Spring Forest Qigong (SFQ) which is a medical form of qigong that is simple, efficient, and an effective method for helping experience optimal health, wellness, and happiness.
What is Qigong
The term “qigong” is a combination of two words: "qi," which means “subtle breath” or “vital energy,” and "gong," which translates to “skill cultivated through steady practice.” Together, the words describe an age-old practice that harnesses the power of breath, movement, and intention setting to create health and balance within the body. Qigong combines focused meditation, concentration, breathing techniques, body postures and flowy rhythmic movements that activate and cultivate qi (energy) as it flows through the meridians (invisible energy channels) in the body.
Energy Blockages
Energy blockages are caused by many things but the most common causes are emotions or stress. Energy blockages cause your body’s natural healing system to breakdown and malfunction. We all experience stress and sadness in our lives. When these emotions reach a threshold they become too much to handle effectively, and a blockage forms. The blockage can manifest physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Everyone is different regarding how this blockage appears, but for some it could be high blood pressure, for others it could be anxiety or depression, and others experience digestive troubles.
In our practice group, we learn not to focus on symptoms, but on the root causes of all mental and physical illnesses – energy blockages in the body. By removing the blockages and restoring the natural energy balance in the body, anything becomes possible. As the blockage or blockages are removed, the energy is restored, and the disease, sickness, or other problems begin to go away.
Regular practice, benefits include:
- Balanced Nervous System: Qigong practices can help balance the autonomic nervous system, which plays a role in regulating blood pressure. By promoting balance between the sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous systems, qigong supports cardiovascular health.
- Boosted Immune System: Regular qigong practice has been associated with enhanced immune function. The relaxation response and improved circulation contribute to a healthier immune system.
- Pain Management: Qigong has been shown to reduce chronic pain conditions, such as arthritis and lower back pain, by promoting relaxation and improving circulation.
